A new Raman Probe for plant cells

RIKEN CSRS has developed a new Raman Probe suitable for plant cells, which allows the visualization of the process in which target molecules are transferred into the cell.

The research team combined diphenyl acetylene with high Raman intensity, and a macromolecular carrier with high biocompatibility, to develop a practical Raman Probe with high detection sensitivity and cell membrane permeability. The team also found that the uptake pathways of cells differed depending on the type of macromolecular carriers combined with the probe. The probe developed has low cytotoxicity, and binding the probe with the substances to be transferred into the cell (i.e., target molecules) allows the visualization of the intercellular translocation processes of various target molecules.

It is anticipated that the results of this research may offer a new clue to the mechanisms by which various substances are taken into plant cells.
